Professor Arto Kiviniemi Dr Arto Kiviniemi, Professor of Digital Architectural Design, is one of the internationally leading experts in the integrated Building Information Modelling (BIM) which he has developed both in Finland and internationally since 1996. In 1997-2002 Arto lead the Finnish national R&D programme which created the foundation for Finland’s position as one of the leading countries adopting BIM. In May 2010 he moved to UK, first to the University of Salford, where he initiated the first MSc BIM programme in the UK, and in September 2013 he started in his current position at the University of Liverpool. Internationally Arto’s main activities have been related to the International Alliance for Interoperability, now known as buildingSMART International. Arto was one of its founding members in 1996 and acted as the Chairman of the International Council and Executive Committee 1998-2000, Deputy Chairman 2000-2002 and Chairman of the International Technical Management Committee 2005-2007. Currently he is a member of the International Technical Advisory Group. Arto has presented over 100 keynote and invited lectures in international seminars and conferences around the world since 1996. For his international merits in developing integrated BIM Arto received the FIATECH CETI Outstanding Researcher Award in March 2009 and the Order of the Knight of White Rose of Finland in December 2012.

Professor Dr Khairul Anuar Kassim Dr Khairul Anuar Kassim is a Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is currently the Dean for the Faculty of Civil Engineering UTM. He obtained his B.Sc in Civil Engineering from Middlesex Polytechnic, London (1986) and M.Sc in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom (1991). He completed his Phd at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1998. Prof. Khairul Anuar is an active person in research where he managed to secure various research grants amounting to more than RM 1 Mil. He has produced more than 200 papers in index and non-index journals including conference papers. Being a research oriented person,  he has received several awards from national and international bodies. He is also a member of several national and international organizations and professional bodies.

He teaches courses on "Strategic Planning for Cities”, “Intelligent Cities”, “Smart City Applications Design and Development”, and “Innovation Systems and Strategy". He is founder and director of the Urban and Regional Innovation Research (URENIO) and his fields of expertise are on city and regional planning, innovation systems analysis and strategy, and intelligent cities / smart cities design and development. He has coordinated about a hundred research projects under the European Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP), Framework Programmes (FP), and Territorial Cooperation Programmes (Interreg, SEE, MED), and has been honoured with the Award for Excellence and Innovation of Aristotle University for achievements in competitive research. He has worked as expert of the European Commission in the development of technology parks, regional innovation strategies, and actually in the assessment of research and innovation strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3), and digital growth strategies across many regions of Europe. He has participated in the UNIDO activities in developing countries and in the drafting of the OECD innovation strategy.

He has an Architecture and Masters of Science degree from Universidad del Zulia and a PhD in Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles. His research interests include passive cooling systems, low energy carbon neutral architecture, and affordable housing having published more than 130 papers in conferences and journals worldwide in these topics. His book “Carbon Neutral Architectural Design” (CRC Press-Taylor Francis, 2011) has been in the topt five in Amazon's Energy and Buildings category and the second edition will be out in early 2017.
